SAVE THE MOTHER AND UJA LAUNCH A CAMPAIGN OF CHAMPIONING MATERNAL HEALTH.

Save The Mother Organization (STM) has established collaboration with the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) in a bid to end preventable maternal and child death from the Uganda communities, arising out of pregnancy complications and un safe birth.

Although the number of the Ugandan women dying in child birth has progressively reduced over the years, cases of maternal death remain alive due to delays by pregnant mothers with complications to go to the hospitals, poverty to transport themselves therein, cultural needs, etc.

According to the 2022 Uganda’s Demographic and Healthy Survey (DHS), maternal mortality reduced from 189 per 100,000 live births, which is 44% decline from 336 in 2016.

Statistics also shows that 2, 87000 mothers and 4 million children die globally every day due to preventable pregnancy complications and un safe birth.

It is on that premise that STM in collaboration with the Uganda Christian University (UCU) and UJA established collaboration to address the problem.

The partnership was preceded by a fruitful engagement that was held between Save The Mother and UJA team at UJA offices in Kawempe. STM ED Mushin Nsubuga underscored the need for elimination of deaths between mothers and children during birth, arising out of the information gap to them ahead of delivery.

Secretary General Emmanuel Kirunda welcomed the partnership with STM organization as it will enhance journalist's capacity in reporting matters on maternal health.

Kirunda observed that the objective of the same aspect will be realized through UJA INITIATIVE ON HEALTH under which the association strives to fight for a healthy Ugandan society.
